MOON GMT XK1 — A horological exploration diary

MOON GMT XK1 — Journal d’une exploration horlogère

Some projects begin with an intuition.
Others have a clear intention: to create something that does not yet exist.

This project begins with a question:
What if a watch could evoke the feeling of space exploration, without artifice or imitation?

Spacefox came up with the idea.
Akrone decides to make it a reality.
And the adventure begins.

🛫 T+0 — The starting point

The mission is simple to formulate, but demanding to accomplish:
to design a watch that copies nothing, that doesn't replay the past,
but which truly captures the world of exploration.

A watch capable of expressing:
– the precision of a mission instrument,
the spirit of exploration,
– the robustness of a watch designed to last.

Team Akrone locks down the trajectory.
Spacefox approves the mission.
The Moon GMT XK1 is coming soon.

🌍 T+6 months — The choice of movement: thinking like an explorer

Very early on, the central function of the project became clear:
The watch should allow you to change time zones naturally, just like changing direction.

The choice then fell on the Miyota 9075 True GMT caliber.
This movement allows the local time hand to be set independently of the GMT hand :
Ideal for travelers and professionals on the go.

Around this base, Akrone adds an additional complication:
The Worldtimer , a disc that displays the time in major capital cities at a glance.
Readable. Direct. Instinctive.

The Moon GMT XK1 does more than just measure time:
It helps you find your way around.

🛰 T+1 year — Giving shape to exploration

The design is built step by step, with a clear intention:
to make the watch an object inspired by space engineering, without falling into caricature.

The needles?
They resemble the silhouette of a shuttle.

The screws?
They replicate the geometry of the Spacefox logo.

The case?
Inspired by the functional volumes of scientific modules:
titanium, forged carbon, sharp edges, technical surfaces.

Nothing is decorative.
Every detail has meaning.
The Moon GMT XK1 becomes a true instrument of exploration.

🌑 T+2 years — The Moon as a signature

On the back of the watch, the most emblematic element of the project:
an authentic fragment of lunar meteorite , certified by Luc Labenne and classified by the Meteoritical Society.

Around this fragment, Akrone engraves the map of the Apollo 11 mission site , the precise point of this historic moment.

At this point in the background, a symbolic representation appears:
the trajectory of Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin's first steps on the lunar surface,
engraved like a series of imprints joining the Moonstone from the LEM module placed on the oscillating mass.

On the date disc, a symbolic detail:
Day 21 is replaced by a representation of the LEM .
in homage to July 21, 1969 , the day of the first extravehicular activity (EVA)
during which the two astronauts walked on the Moon.

These details are not decorative:
They are the memory of exploration.

🔧 T+3 years — Where the project becomes reality

The third year is devoted to a crucial step:
transforming the concept into a real watch.

This phase requires continuous work:
– technical development,
– production of parts,
– adjustments,
– corrections,
– tests,
– support for partner manufacturers.

Some reject the project, deeming it too complex.
Those who accept work closely with Akrone.
Each component undergoes a thorough inspection.
Every detail is reviewed until the expected reliability is achieved.

Finally, the Moon GMT XK1 is ready for assembly.

🌌 T+1095 days — A watch, a story

Three years after the first design, the Moon GMT XK1 actually exists.

She embodies:
– an intuitive True GMT complication,
– a legible Worldtimer,
– a design inspired by aerospace engineering,
– an actual fragment of the Moon,
– a long and precise technical task,
– and the desire to create a watch that tells an adventure.

The Moon GMT XK1 is not a nod to space.
This is a mechanical interpretation of exploration.
